patty cake, patty cake, baker's man

Through the excitement of ending the blog hiatus, I forgot to include the most exciting news of recent:

WE HAVE A HOME!

No more are we calling, emailing, hoping, and waiting... well, at least for this. A couple weeks ago we finally heard back from a woman at Biola with the good news-- we had been granted one of only 4 open housing spots in the Biola apartments. They're about a 10 minute walk from campus, and a hop and a skip from everything else (including the Metro that takes you right to downtown LA).

We'd been on the waiting list since the day Dave got his verbal acceptance to Talbot, so this has been quite a relief. The biggest reason we're so relieved is that we've already committed to downsizing to one car, so now we don't have to worry about carpooling and figuring out transportation since Dave can easily walk or ride a bike to school (how 1950s is that??).

After ridding our home of so much furniture & belongings in the recent weeks, our apartment is actually starting to look a little bare. I think it's really just that we've been used to seeing our place so filled to the brim, that now, actually being able to see a considerable amount of floor & wall space is just astounding. It's nice, though, simplifying your life. Ya know?

Since my time as a personal grocery shopper is about to come to its end, I'm considering asking if anyone wants to learn the trade. I'm already prepared to train at least one person to take over my job. Thoughts?

And lastly, I'll share with you my latest food obsession. I am absolutely in love with Joy the Baker. I've been staring at these Chocolate, Peanut Butter Cookie Dough, Toasted Marshmallow Cupcakes for 2 days now, and I'm so close to giving in and just making them.

Over Mother's Day, I made Ms. the Baker's Vanilla Butter Cake, which I altered slightly for a light lemon flavor, for my lovely mother (it was her birthday weekend too!) and it was 100% ah-maaaaazing. If I didn't care about looking like a babe for the summer (oh come on, you know you care too), then I would make the cupcakes in a heart beat. About every time we visit the in-laws', I bring something new I've made. It's a great excuse to offload my baking beauties... and blunders.

I'll let you know if I make the cupcakes. Promise promise.

the mrs.

  1. I am so happy for you, you really do get back what you put in. You and Dave are amazing examples of this. I am getting so damn sad it's almost time for you to move, but so happy for you. You absolutely know without a doubt I will be out there soon. Don't ever stop blogging, I love reading everything. Please call me soon so we can plan something, like I said I will come down there. I love you so much Judy!
